Hagerty’s YouTube channel and presenter Henry Catchpole explores a 1985 Porsche 959 prototype that laid the foundation for the iconic model built from 1986 to 1993.
The Porsche 959 is often overshadowed by the Ferrari F40, but its advanced technology and development led to the production of the rare and highly sought-after Sport variant, which held the title of fastest production car during its cycle.
The F9 prototype used in the video is the analogue version of the 959 and lacks power steering, air conditioning, electronically controlled suspension and anti-lock brakes, making it even lighter than the production car.
The F9 is one of 12 “F” series 959 prototypes, with a further 17 “N” and “V” series prototypes produced at the start of 959 production.
